AI workflow for creating SOPs

Most small businesses do not have written processes because writing them is slow. AI changes the maths. Here is a workflow that turns a messy walkthrough into a clean SOP in under thirty minutes.

Step 1: Record yourself doing it

Talk through the process while you do it. Loom, Zoom or your phone all work. Aim for one continuous take, even if it is rough.

Step 2: Get the transcript

Most recording tools generate a transcript automatically. If yours does not, paste the audio into a transcription tool.

Step 3: Ask for an SOP

Paste the transcript into an assistant. Ask for a clean SOP with steps, owners, tools, inputs, outputs and warnings. Specify the format you want.

Step 4: Edit

Read the SOP and fix anything that is wrong, missing or unclear. Add screenshots where it helps. Get one other person to follow it and note where they got stuck.

Step 5: Publish

Save it somewhere everyone can find it. Notion, Google Docs or your wiki are all fine. Schedule a quarterly review so it stays current.
